Duin en Kruidberg - Nature
The Duin en Kruidberg nature area is located near Santpoort-Noord and forms part of South Kennemerland National Park. This varied dune area of around 350 hectares provides a beautiful transition from ancient dune woodland and former country estates to open dunes, wet dune valleys and, eventually, the North Sea beach.
What can you expect in Duin en Kruidberg?
- Varied dune landscape: The scenery changes constantly during your walk. You pass through woodland, sandy dune slopes, open grasslands, drifting sand areas and wet dune valleys.
- Beautiful views: From the higher dune tops, you can enjoy lovely views across South Kennemerland National Park and the surrounding dunes.
- Wildlife: The area is home to Konik horses, Highland cattle, roe deer, foxes and various dune birds. Always keep a safe distance from the large grazing animals and never feed or pet them.
- History of the country estate: Duin en Kruidberg was created in 1895 from the former estates of Duinenberg and Kruidberg. Stone pillars at the entrance still recall this country estate period.
- Traces of the Second World War: Scattered throughout the dunes are bunkers and other military remains, hidden among the woodland, dunes and shrubs.
- Walking routes for all abilities: Several walking routes start from the main entrance, including the short Koepelberg Route of around 1.7 kilometres, the family trail Speuren in de duinen of around 2 kilometres and longer routes leading towards the beach.
- Walk to the sea: If you have more time, you can follow the blue Dwars door Duin en Kruidberg route. This walk of approximately 12 kilometres takes you through woodland and open dunes to the beach.

Duin en Kruidberg is ideal for anyone wishing to discover the diversity of South Kennemerland National Park. Woodland, dunes, wildlife, history and sweeping views all come together here within a relatively small area.

- Main entrance: The official entrance is at the paid car park on Duin- en Kruidbergerweg in Santpoort-Noord.
- Opening times: The nature area is open daily from sunrise to sunset. Admission is free.
- Dogs: Dogs are not permitted in Duin en Kruidberg, even if kept on a lead.
